Flagstaff Butte
Quick report
We rode from Catherine Creek SnoPark out to West Eagle Meadow. We were interested in how much new snow has accumulated since the start of the refresh, and how it is bonding to the old crust. There is very little new snow below 5500', but the accumulation ramps up nicely as you get higher. In sheltered areas we found 6-8" of new snow on top of the February crust, which made for good enough riding. The new snow seems to be bonding well to the crust in the areas we rode. Along ridgelines the snow has been blown around and deposited into some drifts of more cohesive snow. We did not find any reactive windslabs, but if you find yourself riding deeper snow than the rest of the zone, you might playing in a windslab. Keep it low angle where you find this deeper denser snow, and step into steeper terrain cautiously.
