Quick report
Skiing up high in the bowl was old icy blown tracks with wind effect snow and crust and better snow lower down. From what I observed, use caution and proper separation protocols below and in the path of snow loaded Cliff bands. That NW facing panel of Big Kangaroo Peak typically receives cross wind and deposition loading, and dumps avys into the Slot Bowl ski terrain sometimes predictable, oftentimes randomly. Keep that in mind when placing wall to wall speed bump ski tracks in the bowl (or anywhere).
Avalanche
Observed several recent natural release Avys that occured sometime between Wednesday Late afternoon and Early Thursday morning. No discerning crown lines were observed. Two came down the lower to Mid level cliff band/rocks on the NW panel of Big Kangaroo Peak. One of those carried across our Wednesdays transverse tour of Mid lower Kangaroo ridge. On that Wed. tour, of note is the variability of the snowpack that ranged from thin snow over a hard icy crust (blown off ) to good deeper well settled power where we could not feel the crust while turning. We also encountered sections of unconsolidated sugary snow through mid level Boulder fields. The Avy that crossed our traverse line had a deposition pile that may have buried a skier. Two other natural avalanches that were observed,that also came down during that same time period, was one in the mid level of the W to SW trending gully below the Kangaroo ridge "Nipple". That occured as a point release that grew into a sizable deposition pile after running several hundred vertical feet. The other appeared to be a point release that grew and took snow chunks off rocks with it. That Avy occured in the more SW aspects of the lower "Nipple" panel as it enters the slot bowl. May or may not have buried a skier but those solid snow chunks, ouch. Serveral older Avys that most likely came down during the last major storm cycle were seen as debris piles in the bottom of 1) kangaroo peak gully and ,2) the major gully further South that is the path where 4 separate Gully's converge.
