Quick report
Dug 1st snow pit at 7,800, NW aspect on the ridgeline off Paulina Pk. CTM15 down ~30cm, SC; CTM17 down ~35cm, SC, and CTM20 down ~40cm, SC. Same fractures observed during ECT but no propagation past the shovel edge. Dug 2nd snow pit at 7,800, NE aspect, at the top of 3Gs. ECTN15 down ~45cm; ECTN25 down ~60cm. All weak layers in both pits appeared to be on storm interfaces, we didn't examine the snow grains but no weak layers were obvious. Observed no cracking, collapsing, or other instability other than the small avalanche described above.
Avalanche
I triggered a D0.5 wind slab avalanche at 7,060 on a NE aspect. Crown was ~6" and maybe 20' wide, not enough to knock me off my feet. I was skiing 3Gs (bowl directly north of the lookout) and was hundreds of feet below the ridgeline, however this terrain seemed to channel wind that flowed down through the bowl almost to the bottom. We observed snow being transported hundreds of feet down the bowl, despite winds being quite light on top of Paulina Pk. I'm not sure if this is a typical phenomenon, but I would urge people to be cognizant of wind slabs in atypical places when skiing this run, especially due to the serious terrain trap hazards.
