Observation: Montreal Hill

In this snowprofile we found an average depth of 108cm. To summarize our snowpit, we found that the surface snow is weakening, the graupel layer seems to be bonding well to the rest of the snowpack, we found a melt freeze crust in the mid to lower part of the snowpack that is decomposing, and basal facets that are small. Most of the snowpack is composed of rounds and faceting rounds with weaker snow towards the surface and facets at the ground.

We would rate this snowpit as a 9.

Surface conditions are weakening with clear skys and cold temperatures, there was surface hoar present on all aspects this morning. On solar aspects there is a small melt freeze crust that was present in the begining of our day but by the mid afternoon was barely detectable. We also saw some small pinwheels on solar aspects at lower elevations.
