Snowpack

We climbed to 2000ft. The total snow depth was 250cm. We dug a pit on a NW aspect on a 28 degree slope and observed no substantial test results. We did observe two distinct layers in the top 20cm. The sunny days and cold nights earlier in the week created skims of ice layers with small surface hoar between the new snow layers. The rain event in January solidified the snow pack below 40cm, where we found 4mm ice particles down 78-79cm.  There were 3 to 4 mm facets just above this layer.  We also found a 3 to 4mm ice layer down 48 to 50 cm (end of year crust).
