We toured up Tallac via the standard skin track. By 9:30am signs of wet loose were already apparent on sun exposed slopes and saw some small naturals run from the rocks on the southeast side of the bowl. We descended the north bowl and got into some steeper terrain where we were able to get some sluff moving easily in the dry, cold snow. We skinned back up the bowl towards the central couloir, and began to put a boot pack up the chute to assess the snow in it. We observed a dense slab of wind drifted snow that quickly grew as we ascended and decided not to continue. Lots of tracks were observed on steep slopes with no signs of instability other than minor dry loose.
