Quick report

Today I traveled in the Cowboy Ridge, Tunnel Creek, Old Faithful, and Grace Lakes areas. Finding good snow just took a change in mindset. Although cold recrystallized snow exits on open polar aspects the effects of tree drip make traveling between these areas quite difficult. On the other hand, decent corn skiing was found on due south facing aspects. Widespread surface hoar growth was observed today on all aspects and elevations. Sheltered valleys have the most impressive surface hoar formation as seen in the attached picture from the Berne Camp WSDOT maintenance shed. Below 4800' on solar aspect the newly formed surface hoar was almost completely rounded from the effects of the sun. Above that elevation it is surviving the effects of the sun and is more well-formed. A very wide glide crack was also observed in the Tunnel Creek drainage on a S aspect around 4500'.
