Quick report
Traveled out to Tye Peak via Skyline Lake, found roughly 4 to 5" of fresh and cold unconsolidated powder on a variably supportive crust with no evidence of wind effect. Touring conditions were thin but manageable, the south slopes of Tye were well covered but the slopes north of Skyline Lake were pretty scrappy and thin with a lot of tight tree skiing. The thick crust beneath the powder supported skis for the most part though it was a bit catchy, esp on north facing and cooler slopes. It was a beautiful clear morning with intermittent light cloud cover and we enjoyed two laps on the s slopes of Tye before the powder started warming and beginning to gently rollerball. We headed home after that, assuming things were going to get sticky. Didn't dig a pit but saw no evidence of instability even on steeper slopes and the powder seemed well bonded to the underlying crust. Overall a great day out but am guessing the good conditions were fleeting w the sun today + the warmup forecast in a few days.
