Quick report
I traveled up to Tuckerman Ravine today, arriving at the bowl in the early afternoon. Winds were light to moderate and did not appear to be transporting any of the dense, heavy snow from yesterday's storm. The floor of the bowl was a mixture of new snow of varying depth and scoured surfaces. The gullies and headwall appeared to be a similar mosaic of old crust and new snow, however visibility was limited so I could not tell for sure. I climbed up the right side of the ravine to the rock buttress looker's right of Lion Head Gully and dug a quick snow pit on a south facing slope. In this location there was 25cm of new 4F snow on top of the old K hard crust. An extended column test yielded the result ECTX and a hand shear released stubbornly with a Q3 shear. Overall, no signs of instability were observed. Fun skiing all the way back to Pinkham!
