Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Skied the NW face of Mt Fuji. No significant signs of instability. Only very minor cracking in recent wind drifted snow. About 7-10cm new snow. Dug a pit at ~5700' on the 25 deg NW slope off the west ridge of Fuji. Poor snowpack structure with buried surface hoar and facets below deeper ice crust, but no propagation in test results. ECTN18 above the buried surface hoar at 27cm deep, ECTN22 in the next block of stiffening snow at 34cm deep. No activity around the thin ice crust buried 60cm down in the ETC, but the column broke on a planar surface just under the ice crust with a light shovel shear. From 10am to 2pm, it was snowing/graupeling off and on up to rates of 1/2"/hour with occasional light to moderate winds out of the SW. Some blowing snow, but not prolonged.
