Quick report
Skied the north slope from the Twin Peaks notch today, and found warm, wet and soggy conditions in almost all locations we traveled. It was 41 F at the car at 11 am, and felt even warmer, with minimal wind. A thin, breakable rain crust from Wednesday existed on all aspects all the way up to the summit at 8800’. In sunny locations, this had already broken down, and 2-3” of wet snow was on the surface. In more densely treed areas, the amount of meltwater coming out of the trees was massive, and created large areas of fully saturated snow, which were sticky and less supportable. We skied the NE facing slope from 8800’, and on this shady slope, the crust was still fully intact. Below this was about 8-10” of dense, moist snow, resting on top of another bulletproof crust. Despite the surface crust, the skiing was actually decent, as it was quite thin. Around 8000’, where the slope decreased in pitch, this crust started to soften, and by 7600’ or so, had decomposed to wet snow entirely. The exit back along the TRT was sticky, but supportable.
