Poor Snowpack Structure
Red Flags Comment

A quick trip up the highway for a little riding and exercising. No big avalanche hazard in this location and it is of the beaten path. I did find some very weak sugary snow in this mid elevation rocky terrain.

The series of small storms the last few days have slowly added up to about 10-12" on the north slope around 9,500'. The snow conditions have greatly improved at least in sheltered areas. I did not get into much high elevation terrain today.

This location does not see many riders, but wanted to see what the snow looked like about mid canyon along Hwy 150 on the north slope. Nothing but large grained faceted sugary snow as seen below the crystal card. In this location there was not much of a consolidated slab, so the hazard was low. Thin and rocky terrain is a likely place to find this type of snow pack set up.

This location does not see much in the way riders, but I wanted to see what the snow pack looked like here in mid canyon. The coverage is quite good overall, but you can easily find very weak sugary and unsupportable snow mainly around rocks. I was not finding much of a slab on top of this poor structure.

These small storms have been slowly adding up with around 10" of nice medium density snow on the north slope. It has been a nice little re-set covering up many of the old hard tracks.
