We observed touchy and easily triggered wind slabs that stepped down to deeper buried weak layers at mid and upper elevations while touring today. We also found good powder skiing in wind-sheltered lower angle slopes and variable surface conditions throughout (classic spring). Observed localized collapses from 4800' on up on N, NW, and NE aspects and localized cracking (up to 2m) in wind loaded terrain features. No recent avalanches observed until we both intentionally and unintentionally triggered avalanches (described in avalanche section).

Variable spring weather with blustery winds observed from E, S and W throughout our outing.
Snowpack
Up to 30cm of new snow above 6,000 ft. atop an old consolidated surface with near surface facets buried just below that old snow surface.

We triggered two wind slab avalanches and one persistent slab avalanche that were easy to trigger, propagated short distances, and stepped down into recently buried near surface facets.
