Quick report
Today we went avalanche hunting and mostly got skunked.
- Surprisingly, the drainage we toured in today did not have widespread natural avalanche debris that the neighboring drainages experienced.
- We observed 6 soft slab avalanches (D1 to D2) on northern aspects at mid-elevations. Across the drainage, the steep southerly avalanche paths did not appear to run.
- There was 3 inches of new snow, over 3 inches of recent snow, all on top of a crust. This crust disappears at around 5000 feet.
- There were many very small point releases of loose, dry sluff that occurred today.
- We did not have propagating results in our ECT. Please see snowpack tab.
- Skiing powder was worth the sporty skinning over downfall and dodging alders.

Winds were calm, with intermittent squalls of snowfall that lasted about 10 minutes each. The low cloud ceiling made for poor visibility.
Snowpack
Snow profile on NW aspect at 5400 feet. HS: 191. Mid-January crust 85cm below the surface. Christmas crust 100 cm below the surface. No propagating results in ECT.
