Quick report
Toured up to Manitoba on a very solid skin track. Stopped before making our way up to the main face and dug a pit. Pit was on the left side of the mountain as you face the summit, about 30m to the right of an old but prominent glide crack (see Trevor’s obs: same day, same time). Dug a pit to the ground at about 2950’ elev, on a 26 deg angled slope, SW side of the mountain, same aspect as glide crack. The area we picked seemed to receive a little bit of wind loading being on the leeward side of the mtn. Dug a pit to the ground, 165 cm total depth, 65cm of dry snow on top of an ice layer about 100cm from the ground. Performed an extended column test and found ECTX. Continued further up the mtn with no concerns.
Observed over a dozen slope testers on the right side of Manitoba: seemed good on the other end with no observed issues. Snow produced thick, deep, heavy turns, and an early season reminder that snow this dense challenges momentum at times. Less dense snow closer to tree line. Winds seemed to be picking up coming from the N/NE direction through the valley as we were making our way down the mountain into the evening.
