Quick report
While skiing wind protected south facing shots in butler basin, we observed slow running sluff whenever the slope angle reached 35 degrees or more. These were largely low consequence in the terrain we skied, but it was notable that there was poor bonding between the new snow/old snow interface. The cold clear night last night produced weak surface snow and may not have helped usher in any bonding on south faces at least. In a zone with deeper storm snow or anywhere where a big wind loading event is added on top of these poorly bonded layers could become more of a problem.
South facing snow had become damp from the strong spring sun when we exited at midday. The same sluffing events triggered from turns in steeper portions of the slope were present after taking on a lot of heat today.
I imagine the warm temps today will help lock things up between NS/OS going into tomorrow.
