23 deg at the start of our tour at 10:15 am, 26 deg at the finish at 3:30 pm. Low clouds with the sun occasionally breaking through and strong winds from the SW. Occasional snow flurries. We ascended Chickadee Ridge from the west and skied south-, east-, and north-facing terrain. We observed blowing and drifting snow on the ridge tops and large wind features from the very strong winds from the S and SSW last night. Even the north aspect of Ophir Peak had many wind features from the wind wrapping around. Snow was dense (fist hard) and supportable throughout our tour though softer in sheltered terrain. Probing with my pole on our ascent, the snow was consistent down to 24-30" then firmer below. Snow quality made for excellent skiing on all aspects. We were unable to produce unstable wind slab results on test slopes. We did a CT snowpack test at 9000' in north-facing terrain. Snow depth was deeper than the 260cm of my probe so we dug down 120cm for our test. Snow profile was F hard down the first 30cm, F hard but softer for the next 30 cm, then 4F hard the next 40cm down to 100cm depth. There was a 3/4" thick P hard crust at 100cm that crumbled easily in our hands. Soft facets below that crust. We got a CTH7 RP result on the interface between the 30cm surface layer and the layer below that. We isolated a second column, pulled from the back at the top layer, and the whole column broke cleanly at the interface between the 100cm rain crust and the weak layer below that.
