Quick report
30 degrees and snowing at parking lot, little wind. Toured from Stevens Pass north parking area at about 4000 feet to false summit north of Skyline Lake, 5300 feet. Traveled on south aspects, generally with 15 cm new snow over 35 cm soft skiing snow. Observed significant wind loading on north side of false summit. Performed extended column test north of Skyline Lake, on a mildly tree covered south aspect at 4930 feet, resulting in 55 cm deep, 4f dense, 5 cm thick weak layer (subtle) collapse (ECTPV 24) below the 50 cm deep, 4 cm thick sun crust. Other skiers reported weak wind slabs (ECTPV 4 at 15 cm deep) on multiple locations of the north aspect, north of the false summit. Generally, 110 cm of cover, with lots of indication of wind loading on north aspects above 5000 feet, and minor scour on south aspects. We carefully crossed slopes up to 50 degrees in protected terrain and experienced no slides, but there was plenty of evidence of wet loose slides within the trees. South aspects appear stable overall. Found few depressions (around rocks and streams) that had not filled in yet at upper elevations, which could be dangerous for the over-confident skier.
