Quick report
Colder overnight temperatures and mostly clear skies provided a solid refreeze of the snow surface in the Carson Pass area today. We used ski crampons in the mid-morning hours traveling on firm and steep northerly aspects still shaded. The surface melt-freeze crust was 10'' thick and ice hard this morning at our snowpit location. Temperatures warmed quickly softening the snow surface by late morning providing good spring snow conditions. The snow surface remained supportable up to the time we left in the early afternoon. This tour can still be done with mostly on snow travel, minus a few sections of walking to gain the ridge.

Mostly sunny skies today with scattered thin high cloud cover and warm temperatures. SW winds were light throughout our tour, lower than expected. Overnight temperatures were some of the lowest in the last 2 weeks. The Carson Pass Snotel sensor (8500') had a overnight low of 31 degrees at 6am this morning and was 51 degrees on our 1st lap at 11am.
