Quick report

Our planned day on Sub Shields was thwarted by heavy rainfall and high freezing levels. We drove to Marias Pass (where it was snowing) and skinned up Flattop Mtn on the Eastern boundary of the forecast area.

•Moderate/heavy rainfall below 5000'
•Persistent, wet snow showers above 5000' (1" of accumulation) with moderate West winds

•Recent snow (from Monday 3/30) ( ~12")  was well settled (4F) and capped with a breakable crust (1") formed during yesterdays warming/rain. This crust spoiled any hope of decent skiing.
•A strong, supportable crust (20cm down) was well bonded to the moist, settled snow from 3/30.

•Overall, a very wet day in the mountains. Somewhere, above our high point, is drier snow and cooler temps.
