Quick report
No skis today. We rode at the head of Lost Johnny to look for recent avalanches and assess the distribution of the buried weak layer that has been plaguing the rest of the advisory area.
- We found facets above the Christmas crust at 6,400 feet on a north-facing slope. ECTX, PST 95/100End. The crust was 65 cm below the surface.
- The snow surface was moist. We found pooling water on the Jan 2 interface. This was down approximately 30 cm.
- The snow surface is littered with debris from the wind and warming. This will make it easy to identify this layer/time period in snow pits going forward.
- Cornice formation is abundant along the Swan Crest. Nearly as abundant as open water on all of the creek crossings.
