Robinson Creek

I hadn't been into the Twin lakes drainage yet this season.  Today seemed like a good day to change that. I knew cover was thin with the lack of snow and the view of the Sawtooth ridge from Bridgeport was  telling of how little snow cover was up high.  I decide to go for a walk with my skis on the Robinson Creek hiking trail. I figured I would need to carry my skis on occasion. Turns out, mountaineering boots would also have been a fine option for the day. We did encounter some large surface hoar in the meadows, but with water flowing in Robinson creek I predict these large crystals are due to the proximity to open water and not a range wide concern. Overall I was able to get good views of Crater Crest and Little Slide Canyon and confirmed that cover is low even in locations that often catch wind blown snow. Low tide conditions prevail in the twin lakes region. The creek crossing into a little slide canyon still has open water, there are currently no snow bridges.

Timeing and conditions didn't allow me to get into  avalanche terrain.  Snow on the robisnon creek trail was 12 inches deep and  had intermintent cover.
