Quick report
- Cracking
- isolated
Ascended through light vegetation towards Gulf Peak before traversing along the Glen Boulder Trail to get back above the main entrance to the Snowfields. Observed some minor cracking on the ascent but felt mostly stable. Hand shear tests showed some slab formation but it seemed very location dependent and was thin in most sections. Snow conditions on the descent were great with snow softening up from the combination of sun and increasing temperatures in the late morning.
Avalanche
Appeared to be an old crown that had filled in visible high up in the Snowfields entrance. We avoided that aspect and other areas of more obvious wind slab. See attached picture.
