Mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 40's near this location with inversions in place. SW-W winds were light this morning increasing to moderate to strong by midday.
Snowpack
We went to Mt. Judah today to see if we could find some lower elevation spring snow with the warmer temperatures and wind direction change to the SW-W today. Snow surface conditions are highly variable on most all aspects. The recent NE-E wind event along with strong SW winds has scoured most exposed slopes back down to the Jan 3 rain crust or highly wind textured surfaces. There remains small amounts of snow left for wind transport as winds increase again later today and tonight. Southerly aspects were still transitional, with 3-4'' of wet surface snow on top of a firm rain crust. On steeper slopes, this 3-4'' of wet snow was easily ski cut to make small wet loose instabilities occur. Other aspects were variable with a wide range of snow surfaces.
