Quick report
Went out, snowmobiling in the Ebbets pass area today. Snow conditions were punchy as there was a pretty widespread melt freeze crust just below the 1 inch of new snow from yesterday's weather event. Only true north facing aspects in upper elevations held some cold snow left. I dug a pit at 8600 feet on a north aspect. In the bottom of the snowpack, there is the ice crust/facet combo with dry loose facets present. The top 110 cm was 1F well consolidated rounds. Shovel tilt showed a planar result about 30 cm down but the compression test revealed no results within the top 125 cm of snow. As we traveled around the east wind was persistent all day long, but only in upper elevations on ridgelines and peaks. Our snowmobiles did not produce any sort of surface instability, nor did we see any other signs of recent instability.
