Quick report
I toured up to Poster Ridge today and observed very low density surface snow. 10-15cm's (~6") of snow had already fallen, and snowfall rates ranged from S1-S3 throughout my tour. Winds were calm below 8000', and light near treeline from the west. On a NW aspect at 8200' I observed roughly 30cm's (1') of fist density snow above a generally right-side-up upper snowpack. During two compression tests I did get sudden planar results at the suspected old/new interface, but this fracture did not propagate past the shovel blade during an ECT. The snow above this interface was barely dense enough to form a slab. No other layers of concern appeared in my pit, and I did not observe any other signs of instability during my tour. Visibility into the alpine wasn't possible due to cloud heights, but based on the amount of new snow blown into my uptrack I would assume snow was being moved onto leeward aspects by the occasional moderate gust. Air temperatures hovered between -7C and -8C.
