Quick report
Dug a pit on the east end of Burgundy ridge SE aspect about 100' below ridgeline at 7800'. Total snow depth was only 85 cm. Two prominent layers, first one below the surface appeared to be a storm interface at 28 cm depth which was reasonably bonded. Second was a crust with obvious hollow facets below it at 53 cm depth. ECT test was ECTN23 28 cm ECTP28 53 cm A solo skier came by while we were digging who told of very poor snowpit results on the north side and a natural release 150' wide on east aspect in one of the steeper chutes at what I understood to be the west end of the ridge. Given the propagating pit and recent avalanche we retreated and skied the east ridge of point 6. Seemed like potential for high consequence persistent slab. Snowing 1/2 -1" an hour in the early afternoon. North winds were strong at ridgeline and moving some snow but for the most part the snow was heavy enough to stay put. Snow and wind tapered off in the afternoon. Snow skied well enough for upside down inverted density. Didn't notice the rain crust until about 6000'.
