I skinned up to Jacob's Ladder where, at about 7:15 am, I observed moderate south/southwest winds transporting snow to the leeward side of the mountains. I noted some cracking underfoot, but no propagation or shooting cracks. However, the new snow did appear to move easily along the icy bed surface when testing the steeper slopes to the sides of the trail. The high angle terrain on the southeast side of Burt Ravine is now well-connected to the trail along the Cog above Jacob's Ladder. For the last week or so, crampons and the ability to self-arrest were required to travel in this area. What was a long-sliding fall hazard in recent days is now a likely avalanche hazard in a location which is not often considered avalanche terrain. Travelling above the Cog (to the south) may be advisable here.
