Quick report
Forecasted snowfall amounts during the day certainly did not come to fruition. High avalanche danger in the upper elevations may have been over forecasted for the pass, but unfortunately weather is difficult to predict and snowfall last night varied drastically favoring the north portion of the Tetons. No natural avalanche activity. Hunted for wind slabs around the pass. Found reactive slabs as low as 8000'. Experienced numerous cracking and one collapse on wind loaded slopes. Dug down on the slab that collapsed (See snowpit). Wind slabs varied in size, up to 2 feet, failing on new/old interface. This interface will likely become a persistent issue. Little to no snowfall in the afternoon. Winds were moderate out of the S/SW actively transporting new snow. 8-10" of dense new snow, with upside down character from strong winds. Storm slabs seemed stubborn to trigger.
Snowpack
9100' S aspect. 45cm wind slab. Conducted a quick compression test, CTC collapse during isolation (x2). Slab failed above 4cm thick melt freeze crust. Found 1mm facets below crust.
