Lighter E winds compared to the Tetons on West Angle in the late afternoon. Overcast with S minus 1 around 16:00. Cold for April, with temps in the high teens and low 20's.
Snowpack
Recent avalanche activity in the area - on West Angle Birthday Bowl and on Mt. Leidy is representative of the very weak snow structure currently in Togwotee. Travel was up West Angle, and while the slab was tentatively keeping you on top in sheltered and non-steep terrain, while ascending you could easily feel the poor structure below your skis. It's typical for this region to have very weak snow, however, it seems like there is a bit more of a slab sitting on top of the myriad of poor structures. I dug at 9,362' SW and received ECTP21 - failure was down 45cm on facets sandwiched between two crusts. Additionally, below the failure plane is another 4F hard slab atop 90cm of Fist hard weak faceted snow. Not the structure I would want to tangle with in avalanche terrain.
