Quick report
Today we learned the love language of the snowpack around WMR was words of affirmation. We found no obvious signs of instability, including jumping on convexities along N aspects along ridgelines. We found small wind slabs that proved unreactive. After a warmup run on mellow slopes and no signs of instability we progressed into avalanche terrain as the day went on. Near the end of our tour we encountered a solo snowboarder in Canyon Creek SE of Beaver Pond walking without a transceiver that was lost and did not know how to get back to the resort. There wasn't enough time for this person to ski out the canyon back to lifts so one of us skinned to the ridge and initiated a rescue. A big thank you to the WMR Patrollers who responded and saved this person from a very cold night out. A good reminder to always be prepared and know where you are skiing before dropping in.
