Quick report

Snowmobiler triggered an avalanche on a small but steep slope above LaBarge Creek that resulted in a fatality. The individual was buried approximately 2 feet deep. The riding partner dug him up and performed CPR.

Snowpack

The avalanche failed on a layer of 6-10mm surface hoar (V) that is sitting on a thin, 1cm thick melt-freeze crust that formed during a period of dry weather from 12/28/2025 - 12/31/2025. The overlying slab averages 20 inches (50cm) in thickness and is made up of fist to four finger hard fragmented and decomposing snow (/) that fell from 1/1 - 1/9.

Debris pile was 100-200cm deep.
