Quick report

Wind loading today may have formed some fresh wind slabs. We cut a few and they didn't crack.

The MAJOR issue is that there is a WIDESPREAD layer of facets under snow from a week ago (~Feb 9/10). Despite very warm weather during dry conditions in January, the cold clear nights sucked heat out of the snow surface and weakened it.

If the oncoming storm pans out, we could see widespread avalanches  on that layer and a much higher danger. We won't be able to travel like we've been traveling for the last month.

This OBSERVATION from Buck Ridge near Big Sky is a great heads up of things to come. With just a little wind loading, we're already seeing avalaches break long distances.
