Snowpack

Continued heating tomorrow is likely to lead to more of the same kind of avalanche activity. Most of the reported avalanches so far have been point released but the width of the slab failure in this photo is alarming. Weak  snow and/or smooth, planar bad surfaces like rock slabs, scree or grassy slopes could cause more of these. It's a fine line between sun softened quality skiing and slope failure.

These avalanches are a good reminder that point release avalanches can be dangerous. These grew quite large. The slab avalanche would also have been a serious problem if someone was caught.
