Quick report

No obvious signs of instability today observed during our tour of WMR backcountry. We had a real pleasant day skiing around the compass rose at elevations from 5-7k'. We found a uniformly distributed ~6" of fresh unconsolidated snow above yesterday's moist supportable surface with temps in the mid/upper 20s, light winds transporting very little snow, and generally overcast (but Flathead bright) sky conditions. We dug a quick pit at 6800' on a NW 33* slope and found reactive but non-propagating weak moist snow just below the equinox crust in ECTs and a CT with moderate force ~35cm below the surface. Snow surface conditions become moist below 5500' by 2:30pm and we easily triggered small predictable damp soft slabs above yesterday's surface on steeper slopes. Another WMR closing powder day?
