Quick report
Skied trees on the west side of Lanham drainage. Observed loose snow up high, very minimal sloughing, very small roller balls. Skied a couple laps of a pillow line and pillows seemed quite stable, no shedding. At 5000' and above there was no noticeable (to pole tests) crust and the powder was very deep. Postholed to my waist on below-ridgeline transitions, a bit firmer on the ridgeline. At 4500' there was about 6" of powder on top of a rain curst. This is where the skiing went from good to bad. Below 4500' snow was very rain effected. Observed runnels on very steeper slopes above cliffs at higher elevations on the east side of the drainage. Below about 4" of powder was a thick (1-2") rain crust, with softer snow underneath. The surface was pocked by tree bombs and appeared to have been skied when it was deep mush (6" deep ski tracks), then frozen. The ski out was terrible, even by Lanham/Henry standards. Fast and hard, deep set snowshoer groomed 3' wide piste, very hard and bumpy off the trail. Thankfully all the snowshoers had packed it in by the time I was coming out.
