Quick report

Started skinning at 8 am with the intention of heading to Wright and looking at conditions over there. We were in a complete whiteout the entire time with only 30-40 feet of visibility. We got to snow lake divide and turned around since conditions were somewhat unpleasant. Temperature was hovering around 33 degrees until the divide, when it got significantly colder. The snow below source lake was mash potatoes with a thin crust on top, above source lake the crust increased in thickness, but was breakable the entire way. This made for very unpleasant skiing conditions. We saw evidence of some larger wet loose slides from the last few days (D1-D2), but nothing new from today, albeit visibility was challenging. The new wet snow from 1-2 days ago (15-20cm) seemed well-bonded to the crust underneath, and we did not see any cracking or evidence of instability in the top layer of the snowpack.

Avalanche

Multiple 1-2 day old wet loose slides, both above source lake and crossing the alp valley out track
