Quick report
In a LTCC Avy 1 course we toured around Elephants Hump from 10 am to 3pm. There was about 6 to 9 inches of new snow. We were protected from the wind for most of the day but observed Moderate gusts as we got closer to the ridge. A strong amount of wind transport was observed on the surrounding higher peaks. The sun was out for most of the morning with few to broken cloud cover. In the afternoon we experienced a few passing snow showers. As we traveled through the terrain we experienced unconsolidated powder until we reach the top where harder wind effected surfaces existed. We dug a snow pit on a NE aspect at 8600ft and got a CT 15 down 20 cm resistant and CT 27 down 53 cm SP we got an ECTN.
Avalanche
Saw one small natural wind slab below a large cornice around 8500 ft on a NE aspect. We also saw an older crown on a north aspect around 8000ft just below a ridge that had been covered in last nights snow.
