Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Skied from 8am-12pm. Skies were overcast with light wind and light snow. Ceiling was hovering between 9,200' and 9,800'. 6-10" of new snow which was very soft and light in tight trees but a bit temperature and wind affected in other areas. Some 2-3' cracking observed underfoot while skinning, mostly on very steep slopes on the uphill side of tree wells. I triggered a small storm slab on a test slope and decided to stick to lower angle terrain. While traversing out from Emigrant I ski cut lots of NE facing terrain but was only able to release the new snow on terrain over 50 degrees. Flat light and unpredictably inconsistent snow made for frustrating skiing.
