Quick report

We toured N and NE aspects between 7200 and 8600 ft. There was a ski-supportable rain crust up to about 8000 ft under a few centimeters of new snow. We observed widespread and dense wind slab throughout the N and NE slopes at all elevations. We did not observe signs of instability such as shooting cracks or collapsing on the wind slabs. We dug a test pit at 8240 ft, above yesterday’s apparent rain line and where there was a thick dense slab of wind affected snow. HS was around 240cm at this location. A variable hardness slab (1F to F) 40-50cm thick overlaid the P+ crust from the rain events over the past week. That crust was 15-20cm thick and sat on moist facets. CT showed easy sudden planar result 15-20cm down in the recent storm snow and we had ECTN3 at this same layer. We ski cut a steeper wind loaded slope up higher that we’ve seen slide in the past and saw no signs of instability. Ski conditions were nicer than expected given the widespread, dense, wind-affected snow. Wind and precip in the form of snow and graupel came and went with the clouds throughout the morning. A few cm of snow accumulated and surface transport would nearly fill in our shallow tracks between laps.
