We came across a good-sized and pretty deep pile of debris from a large hard slab avalanche that likely occurred due to drifting from strong south winds. We felt comfortable climbing up through the debris to near the top of Oscar Mayer. We could still see parts of the blown-in crown at about 9000' in elevation.
This photo was taken from the DB bowl area on 2-11-24.
We've revised the likely date after discussing the avalanche with a local skier who was up in the area on 2-3-24 and did not see it. Strong winds blowing from the south were recorded overnight and the morning of February 5.Paige and Toby
