Quick report
Skied a couple of lines on climber’s right in the Ravine, and found a mix of wind deposits, and old, hard scoured surface. In both Right Gully and Sluice, there were sections of new wind slab up to about a foot deep, and these failed in hand pits with hard force at the interface. However, these were mostly limited in extent and size. In most other locations, I either found several inches of non-slabby snow well bonded to the bed surface underneath, or just exposed bed surface. This crust skied decently however, and was not a show stopper. The SE snowfields off the summit were fully scoured down to this crust for the most part, but again, it was surprisingly edgeable and enjoyable. Conditions were much more benign than I thought up high, with only light to moderate winds and temps in the upper teens to low 20s. Visibility did remain quite limited above about 5200’ all day though. Also of note, when I was booting up Sluice, I did encounter a section of rotten ice underneath the new snow. I was able to punch through this and hear running water underneath, so I retreated at the upper dogleg.
