Quick report
2 feet of new snow on Sun crust from earlier this week. No obvious signs of instability ie shooting cracks or whumpfing but evidence of multiple natural slides on steeper slopes likely released during this storm cycle. Looking east towards mammoth rock, there was a large slide, presumably released from mammoth rock bowl and came down the face just west of mammoth rock. I opted against going up the standard up track, staying on the small ride lookers right. I stayed off steeper slopes and avoided open slopes given the recent snowfall on previous sun affected base. Cautious route finding and conservative slope choice is essential.

Skinning up above the mine, lookers right of the ‘normal’ up track west of mammoth rock. Observed a large spontaneous avalanche that likely started in mammoth rock bowl and came down that main face to the west of mammoth rock. Fortunately no one had broken trail up the normal approach, so I don’t think anyone was up there. I had opted to stay on the ridge to the right and wasn’t in the run out zone. 40-60’ snow plume and fair bit of debris left after it settled.
