Quick report

Cracking
isolated

Above tree line we saw active wind transport into sheltered leeward aspects. In a 35 degree east chute we found active cross loading forming wind slabs ranging in size from 2cm to 14cm thick with some but little propagation. Slab seemed be cohesive which resulted in turning around at 11200ft. A large crack shot out from my boot pack about 2 meters long, 10cm deep. More isolated cracks under skin track/boot pack ranged from 2cm to 14cm.

Snowpack

Below tree line, SE aspects, snow was primarily sun crust/refrozen/slightly softer in the afternoon down lower. Near tree line on E aspects snow was a mixture of sun affected and wind affected. Above tree line on E aspects, snow was all wind affected. Varied from large sastrugi on wind scoured slopes to smooth wind board on leeward sides to active wind loading on sheltered steep slopes.
