Quick report
- Our GSG A2 course went for a small ski + obs tour today in lower mammoth rock area. Overall HS in this area is just enough to execute a good ski tour. Obstacles are still exposed and there were a few hidden rocks here and there but overall great riding conditions. - No signs of instability on the tour up within new storm snow (HST 40cm) , we did observe some significant snow transport up high on ridge lines and ID'd some small (10-30cm) wind slabs that were reactive on exposed slopes NTL. - Interesting note: signs of instability were limited / none if you remove the wind slab problem... we only observed the PWL within lower portion of snowpack once probed and prodded deeper or ventured off our ski or splitboards. Boot pen being nearly full height of snow(roughly 70cm). Ski pen was only 20-30cm. - We dug 2 snowpits today...Our objective was to test for initiation + propagation on PWL's. Interesting note: the site locations were only a few hundred feet away but structure and depth were very different. Paints a good picture of how complex our snowpack set up regionally is right now and even more so locally. - Site location 1: NW, 8800ft HS 85 /// CTM + CTH (SC) down 70cm on basal facets /// ECTP17 x2 down 70cm on basal facets Site location 2: NE, 8800ft HS 65 /// CTH (SC) x2 down 50cm on rounding facets /// ECTP24 + ECTP27 down 50cm on rounding facets /// PST 25/100 (end) down 50cm on rounding facets
