Quick report
Deep powder. 16-24" of new low density snow above 8300' since 3/21. Temperatures have stayed below freezing in the middle to upper elevations and cloud cover has kept new snow surprisingly preserved even on southerly aspects. The old interface below the new snow varied drastically by aspect. Solar aspects with a crust will be the most reactive as more snow stresses that interface. Northerlies have a hardness change that could be reactive for a short period during rapid loading. Found easy hand shear test on south aspects but no propagation, yet....New snow lacks a firm cohesive slab, but as soon as that slab sets up expect increased avalanche acitivity. Mostly sluffing on steep slopes today. Spring time can change conditions rapidly. Hardly any wind effect. Plenty of snow available when or if it does pick up.
Snowpack
Lots of variability in the new/old interface. Solar aspects (E/S/W) with a crust will be most reactive. 40-60cm of new snow depending elevation and aspect above 8300'. Northerly aspects contain some facets, with a decent hardness change that could create a poor interface.
8900' ENE aspect HS: 400cm ECTN 15 down 60cm on facets/graupel/preserved stellars. New snow lacked the slab quality to propagate. F to 4F+ hardness
