We had been getting good sized collapses all day on east through north-facing slopes but had seen no significant cracking until late afternoon. It seemed that earlier in the day the new slab was not cohesive enough to rip out into a slab avalanche. By late afternoon the slab was seven to eight inches up from four this morning. I triggered the slide either remotely from above or from an adjacent lower angle slope. It failed on top of the ice crust.
