Quick report

Arrived at Twentynine Pines with roughly 6” of new snow from Friday night. As we rode up the valley, that figure increased to 16-20” at eldorado trailhead. Partly cloudy conditions existed most of the day limiting prolonged sun exposure. To our surprise, we did not observe any avalanche activity on surrounding peaks. Even on south facing aspects. With cool temps and a light breeze, the recent storm snow stayed preserved all day. As we got above treeline, we did find some recently formed wind slabs from Friday night’s storm that were easy to spot. In these areas, hand pit results and ski cuts were rather unremarkable. However looking up the valley toward Fortune, there appeared to be lots of active wind transport and more wind affected terrain above 6500’. With higher temps creeping in and more sunshine Sunday, I would expect to see avalanche activity pick up some more.
