Having a dig in start zones over the last few days has found this problem with monotonous regularity. Compression results are in the hard category. However, its there and it ain't going away ! Warm day temps have started the healing process. It's not completed. Avoid complicated terrain in start zones. If in doubt simply choose another route.

Recent Avalanche Activity

No recent activity reported.

Current Snowpack Conditions

A few layers of concern deep within the pack. Mainly now confined to elevations above 1900 m. Wind-slab conditions in the odd random spot. Start zones and steep entries is where caution is needed. Re-frozen moist snow from mid-elevations is now icy and slick. Uniform coverage is still not quite there. Many hidden hazards sit just below a thin snowpack.

Mountain Weather

Mostly cloudy, rain/snow moving in after dark. Winds from the W hitting gale strength early.

Sliding Danger

Slick conditions have developed. Be prepared, you will find slick areas in unlikely spots. Caution required in and around steep terrain.

Forecast Confidence

Moderate

  • The snowpack structure is well understood.
  • We are uncertain due to the timing of the incoming weather system.
