Wind slabs are to be avoided as far as possible. The current avalanche situation calls for caution.

40 cm of snow, and up to 70 cm in some localities, has fallen since Saturday above approximately 2400 m. As a consequence of a moderate wind, sometimes large wind slabs formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as above the tree line. In particular from starting zones at higher altitudes and on wind-loaded slopes medium-sized and large natural avalanches are possible. Wet snow slides are possible. Avalanches are shallow and can be released also by a single winter sport participant. Backcountry touring and snowshoe hiking call for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

The new snow of Saturday is lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on very steep sunny slopes above approximately 2500 m. The old snowpack remains generally moist. In its middle, the snowpack is faceted. At low and intermediate altitudes from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

The danger of dry and moist avalanches will decrease gradually.
